I love these boots. They are so warm and I have a very narrow foot and leg and these boots still fit great. They do a really good job even in really slushy snow of keeping my feet dry. They are a bit stiff at first, driving proved to be a bit difficult, but they are better after more wear. They are also really cute in addition to being very practical. The 200 grams of Thinsolate is a bit thin, however, these are very well constructed and plenty warm enough for a person that is active outside in the cold. These are great toddler boots. My daughter was so excited to get these, as these are her first snow boots. We went on vacation to Maine, so we needed something pretty good. They are very, very warm and very, very cute. The only thing is they are very heavy, so it was really easy for her to kick them off when I was holding her. I bought my pair of these black suede Snow Clogs in 2004. This is the third winter I've been wearing them and I absolutely LOVE them!

I live in Bangor, Maine and we have 'real' winter conditions that merit serious winter footwear. These are stylish and yet immensely practical. They are as comfortable as an old familiar pair of 'mocs' (and slip on easily) but come equipped with a SERIOUS 'snow tire' like tread that is made of a compound that remains soft and flexible even in sub-zero temperatures! The 'grip' is spectacular and gives a wonderful sense of surefootedness on just about every surface but sheer, smooth ice (where you would need 'cleats' anyway). I don't have any difficulty driving a four-speed manual either as these are light enough for the necessary foot movements on the pedals (my 'Clogs' are US size 10 1/2 for reference sake).

These are worth every cent I paid for them and are a genuine 5-star item!!!!!"

These boots are amazing. I don't think I'll ever buy another boot for my son. I received a hand-me-down pair for him last year. He is 5, very active, and cannot be bothered to open or close any velcro or zipper. He could slip these on, (sometimes over bare feet!) on his own and he was out the door. He loved them so much he insisted on wearing them right through spring mud season. They almost always kept his feet warm and dry--during general playing in snow and slush, including in snowdrifts, shovelling snow and most sledding (a couple of times snow got down them during sledding--I'm buying gaiters this year as I think that will happen occasionally even with the best boot/snowpants combo). This is in contrast to the kamik boots I paid for, with supposedly-waterproof nylon upper with liner which always let water in the front where the liner has a gap. I am on amazon looking for another pair for this year and hope they come in pink for my daughter too.

I had my last pair of Columbia Boots for 10 years when they finally had to be put to rest. I found these and chose them because they were on sale and pretty darn cute! When I recieved them in the mail (quickly shipped) I was delighted to find that they have no strings to tie and it's bungee cord - which makes them super easy to slip on and off. There is a plastic peice to tighten them if needed. They are very very warm and lighter in weight than my old ones. I am very satisfied with the quality and the price.

With Snow on their Boots: The Tragic Odyssey of the Russian Expeditionary Force in France During World War I

In 1916, in an exchange of human flesh for war material, the Russian government sent to France two brigades to fight on the side of their French allies. By the end of World War I, these two brigades had experienced their own form of the Russian Revolution, had been isolated at a southern training post in a discipline move by the French government, had battled against each other in what was one of the first confrontations of the Russian Civil War, and had emerged from the conflict as a single force, the Russian Legion of Honor, which would remain loyal to France until the end of the war. The remarkable story of these Russian soldiers has been overlooked by historians until now. Jamie Cockfield here explores the journey and transformation of these men, and in so doing, he examines the impact of the revolution on the Russians who were caught in the middle of wartime alliances and nationalist ardor.

Customer Review: Needed another editing

I looked for this book having an interest in the First World War and the collapse of Czarist Russia. I started this. I put it down. I picked it up again and pressed on. I really felt like the editors should have given this one more trip through the wringer.

Instead of a clear history of Russian soldiers shipped to a forign land to die in a particully usless way in a war that most people see as particularly useless, Cockfield uses the brigades' history as a metaphor for the collapse of the whole Czarist state, but then fails to follow through and tries to deny that's where he's going and pretty much ingnores whatever contributions they made to the battlefield other than to say how many died.

What really makes me think this could have worked if only the editors had given it a little more care is that individual chapters stand alone quite well. The problem is Cockfield approachs the chapters by topic instead of chronologically. This can work as a narative style if the author is careful, but Cockfield wasn't. More than once as I read a chapter I found myself wondering "Yeah but what if...' or "Well if this was going on what was __ Doing?" In a chapter or two you'd find out but since they waited for it you find yourself distracted by questions that the author could have easily answered. just him giving more of a time line to his events would have sorted thsi out but dates are few and far between as he is focused on topics rather than chronology and misses the fact that the events did not take place in a vacuume.

Ultimately this left me feeling empty. The author wanted to honor the memory of these men who died so very far from home, but in the end the history he wrote depicts them as a group of whining, self indulgent, revolutionary peasant.

shipping costs more than the booties

These arctic boots, made of fleece with a small velcro tab for closure and a small sewn on patch on the bottom (where their pad would be) worked for my small dog once I fought with him to get them on. anyone buying these should e-mail the seller first and ask what size is recommended for there breed of dog. the small print in the ad says to measure the dog for a more accurate fit but its harder to do this than its said and the package they arrived in, has a great sizing chart size on the back for a variety of different breeds, which sellers should use and show instead of what they suggest. Also know that the shipping is more expensive than the product itself which doesnt make alot of sense to me since fleece weighs maybe an ounce and they were also sent in a large padded envelope.? fleece boots are not good in real wet conditions for obvious reasons or on icy terrain because the bottom patches tend to give in to sliding. however, they do work fine in dry cold and snow and gives at least, some protection.

Wisconsin winters require a boot you can depend on for warmth and comfort. The Sorel Snow Bird is the best I've tried. The fit is true to size for me and they are light and easy to walk in. I have a horse, which requires a lot of time outdoors and in the barn no matter what the weather. Even when temperatures dip below zero these boots keep my feet toasty. That's whether I'm working hard at mucking a stall or standing on the frozen concrete. They're great in the snow, waterproof, and the fleece tops keep the snow out. This boot was fairly competitively priced, se we got it for our seven year old. We spent a week skiing in Vermont, and it did not allow water or snow in, it kept her warm (at 8 degrees F) and she said it was comfortable. We live in Florida, but it does get in the 20's around here, so I am sure she will be wearing them here. A good boot for the money.
